Nefin Chairman Raj Kumar Lekhi said they organized the rallies to denounce the failure of top leaders of the major political parties and the CA chairman to institutionalize the political achievements through the new constitution. [break]
“We are going to hold a national gathering of indigenous peoples in Kathmandu Valley this week to chalk out our future strategy,” said Lekhi, adding, “We want to form a new political force.”
He demanded that an all-party gathering should be organized to find an outlet for the current political vacuum resulting from the expiry of the CA.
Meanwhile, issuing a press statement Monday Lekhi said they were stunned at the demise of the CA without bearing any fruit. “The political parties and their leaderships that played decisive roles are responsible for this,” reads the press statement issued by Lekhi.
Saying that all the CA members are responsible for the dissolution of the CA, he maintained that all of them should take moral responsibility for the failure. “Political leaderships made the CA members helpless and ´rubber stamps´; some leaders had shifted all the rights of the CA to themselves” says the statement.
Lekhi stated that May 27 will remain a ´black day´ in the history of the country as it lost a golden chance to institutionalize the achievements of the April 2006 movement. “Nepali people will never forgive ´a few leaders´ from ´a few parties´ who have turned this historic day into a black day,” added the press statement.
He has further stated that the CA was dissolved as political parties could not forge consensus on the issues of federalism "as some political parties and leaders have never accepted federalism in earnest".
Also, he has argued that the political parties could not reach agreement as they tried to imitate federal models of other countries by forgetting ground reality, economy and structure of the country.
Lekhi maintained that such situation came as there was dispute in the CA regarding empowering people and transforming the country into federal structure. “Now, the people have to identify the political forces and leaders who are anti-federalism and against people´s rights,” reads the press statement.
