NEFIN election process disrupted

CHITWAN, May 13: The election process at the eighth national convention of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) has been disrupted. The general convention is taking place at Sauraha of Chitwan.



The election process was disrupted after there was dispute over the election system as the schedule was to start formal election process from 11:00 am by starting related processes from 8:00 am this morning.



Representatives of the District Coordination Council said that they disrupted the election process as the demands put-forth by them about the election process on Sunday soon after the dissolution of the old committee was not addressed.



Chairman of NEFIN, Raj Kumar Lekhi, said that some disputes are seen for the time being as the District Coordination Council put-forth two-point demands on the issue of statute amendment.



Process for registering candidacies will starts soon after the resolution of disputes and there is a schedule that voting will begin after 4:00 pm today, he said.



Lekhi and Sherpa have declared that they will not give candidacies to any post.The general convention will elect a 13-member Federal Council Secretary (central committee) including for a chairman, five vice-chairmen and a treasurer.
