Khadka garnered 17154 votes while her nearest contender CPN UML candidate Mana KC mustered 15068 votes. Similarly, UCPN (Maoist) candidate Krishna KC secured 2505 votes while Samyukta Janamorcha candidate Netra Budhathoki collected 1949 votes.
Despite a brief lead from the UML candidate, Khadka had been leading the by-election vote count from very beginning.Though the vote count was expected to begin from early Sunday morning, the count began at 11 am after the CPN-UML left the all-party meeting mid-way called by the Election Commission (EC) ahead of vote count here in the district. The party was demanding release of their fellow cadres who were arrested during the by-election.
Earlier on the Saturday night, a clash occurred between police and UML cadres who had reached District Police Office demanding release of their fellow cadres.
The by-election on Saturday witnessed a total of 73 percentage of voters participation cast their votes in the voting of Constituent Assembly(CA) by-election of the Baglung constituency no. 1., the EC said.
This is three percentage low to the earlier voters participations. The second CA election in Baglung witnessed 76 percentage of voters participation.
11 candidates—nine from various political parties and two independent—contended for Baglung-1 constituency.
The by-election was conducted following the death of lawmaker Hari Bahadur Khadka in a road accident. Khadka had won last CA election from Nepali Congress in the CA from Baglung-1.
