NC leaders said members with property still under Maoist control will not take compensation from state coffers, but directly from Maoists themselves.
“We want return of the property looted by the Maoists,” said NC leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat. “What we had agreed with the Maoists is to provide compensation to the victims from the state coffers for product of the land, not for the land and property.”
The Maoists were to return seized land and other properties by Monday, but did not comply with the agreement. Dr Mahat, who held negotiations with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on November 10, said the party’s next move will be to increase pressure against Maoists’ continuous refusal to comply with past agreements and pacts.
Despite Dahal’s commitment, Maoist leaders claim returning property is a matter for the newly-formed Land Reforms Commission headed by leader Haribol Gajurel, and will be dealt with in the future.
