Supporters of Satrudhan Singh Koiri, MPRF-D candidate for constituency no 4 of the district, who had reached Balkawa, clashed with supporters of local NC leader Ram Briksh Sah. NC district leader Raj Kapur Yadav said Sah has received injuries to his head during the clash.[break]
According to Yadav, the groups pelted stones at each other. The incident took place after Koiri reached the house of Jabed Khan, MPRF-D candidate for constituency no-5 of the district to participate in Bakar-Eid celebrations. Koiri also blamed NC supporters of looting Rs 70,000 and other important election related documents.
The locals accused the authorities of failing to effectively implement election code of conduct. The election code prohibits candidates from using more than two vehicles but MPRF-D candidate had been using about half a dozen vehicles.
On the other hand, Koiri complained that the local authorities turned a deaf ear when he informed about the incident to the chief district officer. “I informed about the incident to the chief district officer. But he took the incident lightly and said that the police would deal with the problem,” said Koiri. “The district administration has failed to ensure security to poll candidates. Luckily, I was saved by my supporters and party cadres,” he added.
The police had to charge batons to disperse the supporters of both the groups and take the situation under control. Protesting the attack, MPRF-D supporters obstructed traffic movement at Golbazaar along the east-west highway for two hours. MPRF-D supporters allowed traffic movement to resume only after the local administration promised to bring the perpetrators to book.
