KATHMANDU, July 28: Nepali Congress (NC) Central Working Committee members have continued discussion on the proposed federal state structures prepared by the party´s Vice President Gopal Man Shrestha.

The ongoing CWC meeting that kicked off on Thursday was put off for Wednesday after six CC members including NP Saud, Narahari Acharya and Dilendra Parasad Badu put their views on the proposed federal state structures on Tuesday. Shrestha´s report has proposed two models of state restructuring in which the first one proposes to delineate seven provinces and another alternate model proposes to delineate Nepal into five provinces.

Most NC central members have strongly opposed the idea of delineating federal states along ethnic lines. They have insisted that factors such as population and geographical, cultural and religious similarities need to be taken into consideration to keep the existing social structures intact.
