Addressing the inaugural session of the National Orientation Program organized by NC´s Central Policy and Orientation Academy at the party´s headquarters in Sanepa, the leaders also maintained that the election should not be deferred just because some political parties are opposed to it. The NC leaders also said that people themselves will boycott those attempting to thwart the elections. [break]
“Nepali Congress will move ahead on the basis of 11-point [political agreement] and 25-point [ordinance to resolve constitutional difficulties]. Election will give outlet for various problems and help bring peace and development, and institutionalize democracy,” said NC President Koirala while addressing the function. “The elections scheduled for November 19 must not be deferred.”
President Koirala said since any deviation from the past agreements including the 11-point political agreement and the 25-point ordinance will only jeopardize the prospect of November elections, NC remains committed to the agreements reached earlier among parties for holding elections on time. He, however, said that NC will exercise maximum flexibility to bring agitating parties on board the election process.
Addressing the function, NC Vice President Ram Chandra Paudel argued that failure to hold election on November 19 will jeopardize national integrity. “The election is inevitable to ensure good governance, strengthen democracy and take the country toward prosperity,” he said while claiming that there would be election at any cost even if some political parties chose to stand against the election.
NC General Secretary Prakash Man Singh said that the urgency of fresh election was felt in the country as further deferral of election is likely to put Nepal´s national integrity and democracy at stake. “There must be election at any cost in the November 19,” he said.
Another General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula said that the party won´t compromise on mixed electoral system and November 19 as polls date. “We are not in favor of deferring poll in the name of talks. We must go to election as national integrity is at risk due to extremism of the left and right,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, NC treasurer Chitra Lekha Yadav said that NC will stand victorious if the party leadership chose candidates for election based on merits. “No other forces can defeat the Nepali Congress,” she said.
The three-day national trainers´ orientation program has been organized in view of the upcoming Constituent Assembly election. The trainers will reach to all election booths in 75 districts and make people aware about the NC´s plan and policies
The participants will hold discussions on current political situation of the country, ideological and other differences between NC and other parties, election preparations and contentious issues such as federalism and system of governance in the new constitution.
