Mystery disease claims two in Banke

NEPALGUNJ, June 6: Two persons have died while more than 25 have taken ill of a mystery disease in the remote village of Matehiya across the Rapti river in Banke.

Goli Sheikh, 38, and his a 22-year-old woman from Matehiya-6 have died to the mystery illness that causes high fever, shivering and stomach pain.



The locals claimed that the disease has also spread to the neighboring villages of Gangapur, Kalaphanta and Narainapur. The District Public Health Office, however, claimed that it had no knowledge of the disease and victims. "We will investigate the matter now," said officer at the office Keshar Singh Godar.



The health post in Matehiya, that is 27 km away from Nepalgunj, only has cetamol as medicine, forcing the patients to go across the border for treatment.



Around a score of patients from the village are currently undergoing treatment in Baharaich in India, said Binay Dixt from the village.
