BAGLUNG, Sept 7: Cases of murder and kidnappings are on the rise in Myagdi, though there are no armed groups operating in this hilly district.

The district witnessed eight murders in the past three months. And three children, who went missing a month ago, are yet to be traced. The three went missing on August 14 from their homes. The missing kids are Shakti Armaja (6), Ganesh Tilija (5), and Ajin Paija (6) of Histan-4. [break]

Armaja disappeared when his father Tak Raj was in Beni. His mother, who initially thought the boy had left with his father for Beni, came to know about his kidnapping only in the evening. “He had wished to go to Beni with me,” Tak Raj said. “We looked for him in the evening. He was nowhere to be found.”

The couple informed the police, but the kid is still missing. Police have not been able to trace the whereabouts of the other two kids who went missing the same day. Worse still, police have not been able to guess who might be behind the kidnappings.

“We are not in a position to confirm whether the kids died, were killed or kidnapped,” said Superintendent of Police Sanu Babu Khanal.

A month before the three went missing, two little girls were found dead a week after they went missing, according to the police. Ganga Darji (9), and Sapana Darji (10) of Ratnechaur-9 went missing on July 5 when they were returning home from school. A week later, their bodies were found in a local forest.

In June, an 81-year-old woman and her 51-year-old daughter were killed by a group in the district. Similarly in May, a 66-year-old woman and her 13-year-old help were murdered.
