KATHMANDU, July 29: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Wednesday sent a letter of clarification to Supreme Court on developments pertaining to awarding the Machine Readable Passport (MRP) deal to the French firm, Oberthur Technologies. The court had asked the ministry to furnish answers over the deal two days ago.

The ministry informed the SC that the agreement is yet to be signed with the French company on supply of four million MRPs to Nepal. It has also said that the ministry has only sent a letter of acceptance to the firm so far. [break]

“We have written to the Supreme Court on the details of the MRP process stating that the ministry is completing the contract process and only a LoA has been sent to the company,” a ministry official said.

The 15-day time limit to enter into the agreement expires on August 4.
