Mehruddin, 50, of Akolba VDC, was shot in a clash between protesters and policemen in Gaur on September 17, and died in course of treatment at Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital in Birgunj on Sunday. A meeting between the demonstrators and the DAO officials, presided over by the Chief District Officer (CDO) Narhari Baral, has decided to urge the home ministry to address the four demands put forward by the agitators.
The four-point demand proposed by the UDMF and the NMSA demonstrators are: declaring the deceased a martyr, due compensation for his family, action against the accused police and job for a member of the deceased family, NMA coordinator Haji Zikurulla informed. The family of the deceased received the body only after the DAO submmitted the demand to the home ministry. As per the family, they will perform the last rites of Mahruddin in accordance with Islamic customs.
