Media experts bat for quality reporting

KATHMANDU, Jan 7: Media experts and academicians have stressed on greater role of media houses for enhancing the capacity of journalists and increasing the quality of reporting.



They were speaking at a seminar Saturday on "Information for Nation-Building: Quality Media Education for Quality Information" organized by Kantipur City College (KCC) on the occasion of 10th anniversary of commencement of Master of Arts in Mass Communication and Journalism (MAMCJ) at the college.[break]



Prof Ram Krishna Regmi, chair of School of Humanity and Social Sciences at KCC, highlighted the significance of media education for sharpening reporters´ skills and sought increasing contribution of media houses in the development of quality journalism.



Shree Ram Singh Basnet, editor-in-chief of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) suggested the aspiring journalists to show dedication toward the profession along with attaining academic degree in journalism.



Media lecturers Suresh Acharya, Kundan Aryal, Chiranjibi Khanal, Editor-in-chief of Nepal Samacharpatra Puskar Lal Shrestha and Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) President Shiva Gaule highlighted the weakness, challenges and opportunities of Nepali media. On the occasion, Maheshwor Man Shrestha, vice-chancellor of Purbanchal University gave away medals and certificates to toppers of first to 9th batches of MAMCJ from KCC.



Pralhad Karki, the principal of KCC, announced a journalism award to two outstanding journalists carrying a purse of Rs 25,000 each every year.
