KATHMANDU, May 18
: A secretariat meeting of Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) held at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Monday morning decided to continue to obstruct House proceedings on Monday too.

The Unified CPN Maoist reiterated to continue the House obstructions until their demand that President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav rectify his step to reinstate the army chief, who was sacked by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, is fulfilled. [break]

“We want immediate resumption of House proceedings but for that we urge all the political parties to create a favorable situation to resume the Parliament,” said the statement issued by the Maoist party after the secretariat meeting.

“For immediate House resumption the main agenda that we raised while obstructing the Parliament should first be entered into the House proceedings and should be addressed,” the statement further stated.

The Maoists have urged other political parties to start talks to find political solutions over the matter.

Other political parties in the House were expecting to resume the House proceedings and to start process for electing new prime minister on Monday.

Altogether 22 political parties including Nepali Congress, Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) and Madhesi People´s Rights Forum, had submitted an application to Speaker Subas Nembang requesting to take initiatives to resume the House. The parties have proposed CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal as prime ministerial candidate for the new government.

Meanwhile, Nembang called on caretaker Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar in the morning and requested him to help resume the House. But, the prime minister informed Nembang about his party secretariat’s decision to continue the obstruction.

“I had telephoned Prime Minister Dahal earlier in the morning. He said he can say something only after the party’s secretariat meeting. When I reached Baluwatar, the Maoist meeting had already taken the decision,” Nembang told Republica.

Nembang said that Dahal requested him to create a favorable environment to resume House by addressing Unified CPN Maoist party’s demand.

“I requested him to first help resume the House and we can sit and talk on addressing the party’s demand,” Nembang said. But, prime minister argued that they cannot backtrack from the decision as the party’s agitation for the same cause already moved much ahead.
