TANAHUN, Aug 9: Minister for Information and Communications Shankar Pokharel has said the Maoists themselves are responsible for getting into the army chief row. He also argued that the Maoists have created a situation of political deadlock sidelining other vital issues of the country.

Talking to reporters in Damauli on Sunday, Pokharel said the move by President Ram Baran Yadav thwarted the Maoist plan to violate the constitutional provisions. He argued that the president brought the constitution back on track as it was violated by the Maoists. He urged the Maoists to support the current government to take the peace process to its logical end.

Minister Pokharel also said the government has learned from the past weakness and has started consolidating the governance. He also said that the government would introduce relief packages for the kin of the journalists killed or injured during the armed insurgency.
