KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Murdered radio journalist Uma Singh, 26, had accused five Maoists of abducting her father and elder brother in 2006, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) records show. [break]

An NHRC official told myrepublica.com Wednesday, Uma had lodged a complaint with the national human rights watchdog on September 1, 2006 accusing Maoist cadres from Siraha -- Dhaneshwar Sah, Chandreshwar Sah, Manoj Singh, Prabin Singh and Kusum Lal Mandal -- of abducting and disappearing her father Ranjit Singh, and brother Sanjay Singh, 35 from Siraha district.

The two were abducted from Muskan Hotel at 3 p.m. on August 21, 2006. The whereabouts of the duo is still unknown.

NHRC said that despite an first information report (FIR) lodged with the Siraha District Police Office, no action has been taken so far. All the accused are still at large. Although the names of the father-son duo are still in disappeared persons´ list, the Singh family believes both have been murdered by the local Maoists.

According to the complaint filed with the NHRC, the police had initially refused even to register the FIR regarding the case. "No action was then taken against the accused in the case even after the FIR was registered," Uma had said in the complaint.

NHRC said that their investigation into the disappearance of the Uma´s father and brother is underway.
