KATHMANDU: Ruling CPN (Maoist) and CPN (Unity Center-Masal) are set to announce their unification on December 26, a CPN (Unity Center-Masal) source said. The unification will take place after the national convention of the CPN (Unity Center-Masal) to be held from Dec 21-23 formally takes a decision in this regard. A meeting of the CPN (Unity Center-Masal) on Sunday set the date for its national convention to discuss the unification issue. The CPN (Maoist) national convention in November last week had formally decided about the unification. The CPN (Unity Center-Masal) has demanded 8 seats in Central Committee but the CPN (Maoist) leaders have not yet given their word in this regard. A joint panel of the parties formed to deal with the unification issue had agreed to change the the name of the CPN (Maoist) into Unified CPN (Maoist) but the recent Central Committee meeting of the CPN (Maoist) rejected the agreement. With the unification, the Maoist Central Committee will be expanded. Some leaders of other communist factions who have already unified with the CPN (Maoist) will get some central committe berths.
