Last Friday, the Maoists “collected” 30 muris of rice from the house of late Teknath Gautam of Hapur VDC. Tharuwan Rajya Samiti of the UPCN-M said that it has planned to collect as much as 25,000 muris of rice as seasonal donation in Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali and Kanchanpur districts.
Maoists said that they would send the collected rice to food deficit districts. “We have asked people for voluntary donation and accepting accordingly,” said Maoist Dang secretary Subash Pun. “We are not forcing anybody for donations.”
But landlords said the Maoists have been forcing them to give the “donation”. They have also filed complaints at the local peace committee.
