KATHMANDU, Aug 27: Central Committee (CC) members of the UCPN (Maoist) on Friday started deliberations on the three separate political papers presented by party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Vice-chairmen Mohan Baidya and Dr. Baburam Bhattarai at the CC meeting that began at party headquarters, Paris Danda.

Only two party leaders -- Vice-chairman Narayankaji Shrestha and General-Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa -- commented on the three reports at Friday´s meeting. [break]

According to a CC member, the thrust of Shrestha´s comment was that Chairman Dahal´s report was better, while Thapa pointed out shortcomings in the reports. "However, both Shrestha and Thapa suggested to the party leadership to prepare a common document incorporating all three reports," the member said.

Another leader said that neither Shrestha nor Thapa describe any of the three documents as superior or inferior. "The central members will just put forward their views on the documents. There is no point debating them since the party´s future course will finally be decided by the plenum," he explained.

Dahal, in his paper, argued that the party should move ahead with the agenda of peace and constitution while preparing ground for a revolt.

But Baidya, in his supplementary political paper, demanded a thorough review of the tactical line adopted by the party since the signing of the 12-point agreement with parliamentary political parties, and the charting out of a new course to achieve communist political goals.

Bhattarai has stated that the party should rather institutionalize the current achievements and zero in on the peace process and constitution drafting rather than go for an immediate revolt.
