Maoist cadres attack govt officials

SURKHET, May 18: CPN-Maoist cadres on Saturday attacked government officials and policemen who had gone to the remote Mugu district to run a mobile camp. At least three government officials were injured in the attack.



Their identities are yet to be ascertained, though. The CPN-Maoist cadres attacked the government officials, who were heading toward Sorukot and Kalai VDCs of Mugu district, at Kachchiya village of Rara VDC, said the District Administration Office of Mugu. [break]



 The government officials, led by assistant Chief District Officer of Mugu Toran Parajuli, had left for Sorukot and Kalai VDCs Saturday morning. According to Mugu´s CDO Hira Lal Chaudhary, the Maoists stopped them by throwing stones and boulders down from a roadside cliff. "The incident occurred as they tried to stop us," said Chaudhary. However, the police are yet to collect details of the incident. The Mugu DAO was scheduled to organize a mobile camp to provide citizenship certificates and voters´ cards to residents of Sorukot and Kalai VDC.
