Maghe Sankranti being observed

BHADRAPUR, Jan 15: A large number of local people of Hindu community have thronged the Kankai River from early morning on Sunday and are offering worships by taking holy dips on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti.

A large number of devotees have come to the river to take a holy bath despite chilling cold coupled with thick fog. [break]

Maghe Sankranti also known as Makar Sankranti is observed as New Year by Hindus.

On this occasion, people take sweets, beaten rice, yam, and Khichadi (a dish made by cooking rice and lentil together) and offer delicious food items to the relatives.

Similarly, people of Maithili community also observe this festival with fun and by offering delicious foods to their family members.
