Madhav Nepal applies for CC chair

KATHMANDU, Jan 12: Former Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) General Secretary Madhav Nepal submitted his application for the post of chairman of Constitutional Committee of the Constituent Assembly. Maoist leader and Law Minister Dev Gurung, Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel and Madhesi People’s Rights Forum leader and Foreign Minister Upendra Yadav proposed Nepal for the post while UML leader Surendra Pandey seconded the proposal. Nepal is unanimous candidate of all the four major parties in the CA for the post.



Similarly, CPN-UML has applied for chair of Fundamental Rights and Directive Principles Committee and Committee for the Rights of Minority and Marginalized Groups. Binda Pandey and Lal Babu Pandit of UML have applied for chairperson of these two committees. Other political parties are in internal discussion to forwards their names for committee chairs.



Earlier in the morning, four major parties — CPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and Madhesi People’s Rights Forum had agreed to share the posts of the CA committees. As per the agreement, Maoists will get four, NC and UML three each and MPRF two. They have also agreed to concede one committee chair each to Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party, CPN-ML and Rastriya Prajatantra Party.



The parties should apply for the post by 5 p.m. Monday.
