Lawmakers deliberate on policy, program

KATHMANDU, July 12: Discussions on government's policy and program for the new fiscal year 2072/73 are underway. Over 110 lawmakers so far have participated in the discussions. The discussion session would be completed today itself then Prime Minister would answer the query of the lawmakers.

Taking part in today’s meeting of the Legislature-Parliament on government’s policy and program, Nepali Congress lawmaker Shankar Bhandari urged the government not to cut off the budget of the national pride projects.


Similarly, CPN-UML lawmaker Bishnu Prasad Poudel supporting the policy and program pointed out the need of implementing land use policy after completing reconstruction and new construction projects.

 He further commented that the policy and program failed to address the problem of poor and marginalized people, there was no sign of implementing mega developmental projects and it was silent about the Ministry of Defense.

Likewise, UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker Agni Prasad Sapkota commented that the policy and program have failed to address the abnormal and serious post-disaster aftermath resolution.
He pointed out the need of amending the policy and program as it was traditional, functional and based on status quo.

Similarly, Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal lawmaker Dilnath Giri also commented the policy and program as traditional and functional.
Nepal Workers and Peasants Party lawmaker Prem Suwal commented that the policy and program was not new and it should prioritize the reconstruction and agricultural projects.

Speaking in the beginning of the meeting, NC lawmaker Devkaran Prasad Kalwar informed the house that the farmers of the Nawalparasi district were facing huge damage as the flood occurred in Gandak canal was eroding the farming lands.

He added that they were not getting compensation from Indian side as per the agreement. Similarly, UML lawmaker Ram Prasad Bhattarai said that the sugarcane farmers were not getting payments from sugarcane mills for a long time. The house meeting is underway. RSS
