Last rites of UML leader Dhakal performed (Update)

KATHMANDU, April 6:The last rites of the CPN UML politburo member and Lumbini Zone In-charge, Ram Nath Dhakal, were performed at Pashupati Aryaghat on monday.



Earlier funeral procession of the late CPN-UML leader Ram Nath Dhakal has begun from its central party office, Balkhu, on Monday. The last rites will be performed at Pashupati Aryaghat later.

Dhakal's body was kept at party office from 8 am to 11 am for paying final homage.

Party Chairman KP Sharma Oli paid tribute to the late leader draping party flag over his body.

Similarly, Constituent Assembly Chairman Subash Nembang, senior leaders of the party and former prime ministers Jhalanath Khanal and Madhav Kumar Nepal, ministers, Nepali Congress leaders Arjun Narsing KC, Rajya Laxmi Shrestha, Ranjit Karna, RPP-Nepal's Chairman Kamal Thapa, UCPN (Maoist) leader Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and many others have reached Balkhu for the tribute.


The body of politburo member and popular youth leader Dhakal was brought to party office from Maharajgunj-based Grande International Hospital on Monday morning.

Dhakal, who is also a former Constituent Assembly (CA) member, succumbed to swine flu at 1:40 pm on Sunday. He was 52.

Dhakal was admitted to Grande International Hospital on March 27 after suffering from lymphoproliferative disorder and lymph node tuberculosis (TB).

Doctors say the lymphoproliferative disorder is a condition in which lymphocytes are produced in excessive quantities and infect people with weak immune system.


UML to keep party flag half-mast

Meanwhile, the emergency meeting of the party standing committee held this mroing expressed deep grief over leader Dhakal's demise and extended condolences to the bereaved family and wished eternal peace to the departed soul.

Similarly, the party decided to keep the party flag half-mast in all offices of the party across the country, not to organize any formal program for three days, put a condolence book at party office, and organize a condolence gathering on April 17.

On the occasion, Chairman Oli, in a condolence note, has said the demise of leader Dhakal is an irreparable loss to the party. He was the youth leader with vigor, talent and activism to strengthen party organization, show competency on parliamentary affairs and whet democratic movements.

Chairman Oli has extended heartfelt condolences to the family on behalf of the party central committee.
