Shambhu Srivastav, the owner of Pashupati Kurta Pasal at Bagbazaar, was released from detention at Metropolitan Police Sector Singha Durbar only after his elder brother Satish apologized with the lawmaker. [break]
According to eye witnesses, Kalyani Rijal, the 49-year-old who was elected in the Constituent Assembly from Kathmandu under the proportional representation electoral system, had stepped into the showroom at noon.
As the showroom was packed with clients, she inquired about a ´red kurta´. Shambhu without giving her much attention said he did not have the item.
“The woman suddenly fumed and started arguing with the shopkeeper. She complained that the shopkeeper misbehaved with her,” said eye witnesses.
The dispute took a nasty turn when Rijal identified herself as a lawmaker and Shambhu snubbed her saying, “So what?”
Rijal called up the police while the issue had already pulled together neighboring traders at the showroom. The police reached the scene and took him to custody.
Satish said that a normal misunderstanding had created the trouble. “I apologized and got my brother released,” he said.
Rijal, despite initially insisting that she did not go to the shop to buy kurtas, accepted that the dispute indeed took place. She claimed she was misbehaved. “He did not respond even when I identified myself,” she said.
