KATHMANDU, Nov 13: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala has turned down the resignation of senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba from the party´s Central Working Committee (CWC) and instead sought support from the latter.

In a letter to Deuba on Saturday morning, Koirala sought his support to keep party unity intact.[break]

“It is essential to unite and strengthen the NC in the spirit of its supporters and well-wishers. Anticipating your important support and role for making the party an active, united and dynamic organization, I have rejected your resignation from membership of the Nepali Congress CWC that you had tendered on September 28,” reads Koirala´s letter to Deuba.

Koirala´s personal secretary, Laxman Dhakal, took the letter to Deuba´s residence at Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu.

Deuba had tendered his resignation from NC CWC in September, claiming that the party president had turned indifferent to the deteriorating condition of party leaders staging a fast-unto-death to press for scrapping of the CWC decision to dissolve various sister wings of the party.

Koirala, in his letter, argued that he has made continuous efforts to establish the NC as a united and strengthened party, adding that other responsible leaders have an equal responsibility for making the party dynamic.

Leaders close to Deuba welcomed Koirala´s rejection of the resignation. Bal Krishna Khand, a leader from the Deuba camp, said that the need of the hour was to start a dialogue between the two leaders -- Koirala and Deuba -- and forge an agreement between them.

“The president might have decided to turn down Deuba´s resignation, with a view to accommodate all sides in the party and forge consensus among them all,” added Khand.

The CWC of the NC on September 21 had dissolved the central executive committees of four sister organizations--- Nepal Tarun Dal, Nepal Mahila Sangh, Nepal Adibasi Janajati Sangh and Prajatantra Senani Sangh, through a vote which was boycotted by the Deuba faction.
