KAVRE, May 10: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala has apologized to party members and others gathered at a function in Kavre for agreeing on the proposal to appoint former Chief Secretary Lok Man Singh Karki as the chief of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).

“A mistake has been committed and I apologize to all the party members for that,” Koirala said. He said that though he and CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal had initially agreed on Karki´s name, they had tried their best to review the decision.[break]

Koirala clarified that they had requested Chairman of the Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi and the president not to endorse the decision. “But the president appointed him hastily,” he explained.

Though Koirala and Khanal had initially given their consent on Karki´s name, they had backed out following strong criticism from within and outside their parties.

But UCPN (Maoist) and Madhes-based parties insisted on Karki´s name and the Constitutional Council, which is headed by Regmi, forwarded Karki´s name and the president subsequently endorsed it.
