DHANKUTA, Sept 29: Cadres of Kirant Janawadi Workers’ Party, which has been waging armed struggle in the eastern hills for a separate federal Kirant state, has been holding armed demonstrations in Dhankuta and Bhojpur district as part of their publicity program.

Though the party has announced unilateral ceasefire during Dashain, it has been organizing ideological programs in the rural areas, the party leaders said. Locals said the party activists taking part in such programs are carrying modern weapons including AK 47, machine guns, and pistol and terrifying the locals.

In those programs, the Kirant party workers have been threatening to launch massive armed struggle against the state if a separate Kirant ethnic state was not established.

The government has set up several base camps of Armed Police Force and mobilized large number of police personnel in Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Udaypur, Khotang and other hilly districts in the eastern region to control the activities of ethnic armed groups including KJWP.
