“Everybody started running away in panic after the police started charging batons. I also received injuries to my leg while trying to flee the scene,” said Khatiwada, showing his injured leg. The relatives of the deceased also vandalized an ambulance. Three people were injured in the stampede.
Morang Police informed that several protestors, including three women, have been detained on the charge of vandalism. The dead body of the Karki has been sent to Koshi Zonal hospital for autopsy.
Karki, 57, who was seriously injured in a vehicle accident a week ago, died on Thursday night while undergoing treatment at the hospital. “Devi´s leg was fractured in the accident and she was recovering. Suddenly, her stomach began to swell. Her condition deteriorated after a doctor administered him an injection,” said Devi´s uncle Hosh Bahadur.
Devi´s relatives have accused the doctors of giving him wrong medicine. However, Alok Dev, a neurosurgeon at the hospital refuted the allegation. “The death was not due to the wrong medication but due to internal injuries,” Dev claimed. The hospital remained tense throughout Friday.
