Khatri wins marathon

KATHMANDU, Jan 26: Khim Bahadur Khatri of Armed Police Force (APF) secured first position on Thursday in the Nepal German Friendship Marathon 2012 held in Kathmandu. Khatri clocked 2:49:44 hours to finish the 42.195 km distance.



Khatri´s colleagues Ashok Mudbari and Amar Bahadur Shahi secured second and third positions with the timing of 2:49:45 hour and 2:49:46 hour respectively. Arjun Dhakal was the only top-level athlete of Nepal who had competed in the event. [break]



He finished fourth. "I have taken this marathon as practice for the Sixth National Games," said Dhakal of APF who has claimed gold in the Fifth National Games.



Women´s marathon title went to Dilling Danela of Germany who clocked 4:56:12 hours while her compatriot 71-year old Sigrid Eichner finished second. Sigri clocked 5:45:35 hour. Only two runners had participated in the event.







Bikash Deshar of APF secured first position in men´s half-marathon. He covered the distance in 1:13:41 hours. Damodar Budamagar and Mahendra Dangol of Kathmandu finished second and third respectivley. Krishneshwari Sintakala and Sonu Jaya Rai of APF secured top two positions respectively. Sintakala completed the distance in 1:29:28 and Rai finished it in 1:29:31 hour.



Laxman Malla Thakuri and Asha Narayan Chaudhary of APF took home first and second positions in men´s 10 km race. Tashi Jangmu Sherpa from Solu won women´s 10 km race.



Kiran Malla and Harka Singh Dhami of APF secured first and third positions in men´s 5 km race. Sudarshan Shrestha of Bhaktapur took home the second place honors. Chheechee Sherpa of Solu, Sangita Khadka of Bijeshwari School and Sangita Tiwari of Lalitpur secured top three spots in women´s 5 km race.



Altogether 100 athletes had participated in the event including 27 from Germany organized by Nepal Amateur Athletics Association (NAAA). Minister for Youth and Sports Kamala Rokka, German Ambassador to Nepal Gräfin von Roedern distributed medals and certificates to the winners and participants of the race.
