Epidemiologists warn of community transmission
KATHMANDU, June 30: Twelve new cases of COVID-19 were detected in the Kathmandu Valley in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).
Speaking at a regular virtual press briefing, Dr Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson for the ministry, said that a dozen COVID-19 cases have been reported in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur districts in the last 24 hours.

Of the total cases, 10 are reported in Kathmandu, while Lalitpur and Bhaktapur reported one case each.
In the last few days, the number of COVID-19 cases has been increasing in the Kathmandu Valley; given the number of people returning to Kathmandu has increased after the government eased the nationwide lockdown from June 15.
Earlier on Monday, the government had said that COVID-19 cases have started to spike in densely-populated cities such as Kathmandu.
In the meantime, epidemiologists say that a big number of COVID-19 cases may have been unreported in Kathmandu Valley. “As people are returning to Kathmandu in a big number, the Valley is prone to community transmission. People are also not following precautionary measures such as ‘social distancing’, among others,” according to an epidemiologist.
In the meantime, a total of 316 COVID-19 cases have been reported throughout the country in the last 24 hours. As of Tuesday afternoon, Nepal has reported 13,564 COVID-19 cases, with 29 deaths.
