KATHMANDU, March 15: Kathmandu Valley could not see sunshine on Sunday due to high clouds and haze. Meteorologist KB Malla at the Meteorological Forecasting Division, Tribhuvan International Airport, says that the high clouds and haze in the lower level obstructed the sun. [break]

Visibility was also poor today staying at 1,500-2,000 meters in the morning and improving to the best of 4 km in the afternoon. The situation will improve only in the event of a rainfall or increase in the wind speed. "It´s unlikely to rain in the immediate future so the only way to clear up this haze is if the wind speed, that was 5-6 knots today, increases beyond 10 knots," Malla said.

Kathmandu has not received rain this season even though pre-monsoon starts in March. "It has not rained as usual in the whole South Asia. The western disturbances have passed through Jammu and Kashmir and above (north of) Nepal. It may also be due to high pressure in central India," Malla reasoned.
