Inter-caste marriages up in Far-west

DARCHULA, Aug 3: Inter-caste marriages have increased in some districts of the far-west region despite the society in the region is comparatively backward.



Officials said that the numbers of inter-caste marriages has been increasing in the recent years due to the government´s incentive amount to the newlywed inter-caste couples. [break]



The District Administration Office, Darchula, said many couples in the district lodged applications seeking incentives for their inter-caste marriage in the last fiscal year.



Likewise, a couple in Baitadi district also filed application seeking the incentive for the inter-caste marriage.



In a bid to support the minimum living and help adjust in the society, the government has been providing Rs. 100,000 each couple for their inter-caste marriage for some years.



Similarly, two couples registered applications in Dadeldhulra District Administration Office seeking incentives.



However, many couples have complained that they were not easily accepted in the society for their inter-caste marriage.
