KATHMANDU, Oct 28: The Department of Immigration (DoI) has urged the suspension of trekking activities for three days due to the risk of weather-related disasters in the country's high-hill and Himalayan regions.
A notice issued by DoI Director Surya Prasad Chapagain on Tuesday called for trekking activities to be halted for three days starting October 29, citing the high risk of heavy snowfall and avalanches in the regions.

The DoI stated that trekking permits would not be issued for these areas during the period.
It also urged tourists who have already entered the areas for trekking to move to safer locations. The DoI said the precautions were intended to prevent possible loss of life amid adverse weather conditions.
The DoI has directed all stakeholders, including trekking agencies, trekkers and tourist guides, to strictly comply with the notice. It has also urged them to completely postpone travel to the high-hill and Himalayan regions until further notice is issued by the authorities.
