In an effort to foil black marketing and control the sale of substandard goods in the occasion of Dashain and Tihar, two biggest festivals of the Hindu, DAO has stepped up market monitoring activities. [break]
The team has recovered huge quantities of groceries which have already crossed their use-by date.
Coordinator of the team and Assistance Chief District Officer, Tilakram Pokharel, informed that the team seized date expired biscuits, noodles, sweets, as well as fast food items in huge quantities from the various groceries and retail shops.
Few days ago, the team had also seized over a dozen rotten rice sacks from Dinesh Kirana Stores and Suppliers. The team also seized sacks of decomposed sugar, dry coconuts and snacks among other food stuffs.
The monitoring team comprised of the representatives from police, administration, Domestic and Small Industry Development Committee, Nepal Chambers of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), had monitored around two dozen retailers in the district headquarters.
Nevertheless, the traders are of the opinion that the date expired stuffs will continue to flow into the market until the administration bans the import of such bad quality goods from Tarai.
