KATHMANDU, Sept 23: The House of Representatives on Wednesday unanimously passed the Payment and Settlement (First Amendment) Bill, 2083, following a theoretical discussion.
Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle, who is overseeing the Prime Minister’s daily administrative duties, presented the proposal seeking consideration of the bill. Responding to lawmakers’ queries, Wagle said the government introduced the bill as part of efforts to improve the economy after the existing framework failed to adequately address issues such as systemic liquidity.

Lawmakers Sushil Khadka, Nitima Bhandari Karki, Prem Lal Chaudhary, Ganesh Paudel, Ninu Kumari Karna, Prem Bahadur Bayak, Yashuda Kumari Baral and Parashu Ram Tamang took part in the discussion.
The lawmakers welcomed the introduction of international digital payment services in Nepal but called for clarity on their benefits to the country and measures to ensure secure transactions.
Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal asked lawmakers to register amendment notices on the bill in accordance with parliamentary regulations.
The House also read out a letter from the Office of the President informing it about the assignment of Finance Minister Wagle to oversee the Prime Minister’s daily administrative duties after Prime Minister Balendra Shah left for the United States to lead the Nepali delegation to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
