Highway obstructed over child's death

DHANGADHI, Aug 8: Locals obstructed the East-West Highway in Chaukidanda of Kailali to protest the death of a child in a road accident on Saturday morning.



Eleven-year-old Yagya Bahadur Kathayat died after being hit by a motorcycle (Ma 1 Pa 3104) heading west from Attariya in the morning. Bishnu Kathayat and Ramesh Kathayat, who were standing on the roadside, and pillion riders Padan Air and Prakash Vadai were also injured in the incident. Motorcycle driver Kalu BK is at large.



The locals called an indefinite chakkajam, demanding action against the driver and compensation for the victim´s family. The road blockade left dozens of vehicles and hundreds of travelers stranded.



Police said they were trying to open the highway through talks and would use force if the talks failed.
