High-level team inspects Koshi barrage

DHARAN, July 31: A high-level government team led by Chief Secretary Madhav Prasad Ghimire paid an inspection visit to Koshi barrage and Koshi embankments on Saturday.



The team inspected Pultegautha area -- where the spurs have given way frequently -- and the reconstruction work of the bridge at Patanali. [break]



Sunsari Chief District Officer Ram Prasad Thapaliya said the team visited the Koshi barrage to find out about the ground reality there. He said that the team inquired about the ongoing works around flooded areas.



On Friday, local authorities of Nepal and India had signed an agreement to strengthen the security and construction works at Koshi barrage at Bhedetar in Dhankuta.



The inspection team also included Secretary of the Ministry of General Administration Balananda Poudel, Secretary of Irrigation Ministry Umakanta Jha, secretary of National Vigilance Center Tana Gautam, among others.



The team is, however, said it has not given any specific instruction.
