KATHMANDU, May 29: The government has announced the implementation of its long-term integrated urban development plan, “Vision Kathmandu–2040,” as part of the national budget for FY 2026/27.
Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle said the plan will bring together major infrastructure and urban management projects, including underpasses, overpasses, underground electricity system, and open space development under a unified framework.

The government also announced the launch of a smart urban mobility system in the Kathmandu Valley, including the introduction of electric public buses to modernize city transportation.
As part of broader urban transport reforms, the budget also proposes replacing conventional public transport in Pokhara with electric buses, aiming to promote clean energy and sustainable mobility solutions in urban areas.
