A cabinet meeting held in Singh Durbar on Tuesday morning took a decision to this effect. The government has been using Bimkram Sambat as national calendar till now. [break]
Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government had recognized Nepal Sambat as the national calendar in 2008. Shankhdhar Sakhwa had introduced Nepal Sambat in 880 AD.
According to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Narayankaji Shrestha, the cabinet meeting also formed a three-member taskforce headed by Padma Ranta Tuladhar to study and make suggestions on the country´s national calendar. Hari Narayan Malla and Kumar Yonjan have been appointed as members of the taskforce.
The taskforce has been given a month term to prepare and submit the report to the government.
Similarly, the cabinet meeting appointed Dr Punya Regmi as the Vice-chairman of Youth Self-employment Program.
Also, the meeting decided to send Forest Minister Mohammad Wakil Musalman to Saudi Arabia to attend the burial of Saudi crown prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, who died in a New York hospital Saturday.
