The ministry has brought proposals for operating the Birgunj Sugar Industry, Hetauda Textile Factory, Janakpur Cigarette Factory and the Orient Magnesite Industry.[break]
Spokesperson at the ministry Yam Kumari Khatiwada said that the ministry has brought separate proposals for operating each of these industries.
She said a proposal has been presented to the Council of Ministers for constituting a seven-member board of directors and specifying its functions for operation of the Birgunj Sugar Factory.
It is said the board of directors would have representatives of the Ministries of Industries, Finance and Agriculture based on the model presented by the Corporations Reform Directive Board.
The liquidation process of the Hetauda Textile Factory has reached the final stages and it is under discussion at the Ministry of Finance. The possibility of operating the factory would be explored once the liquidation process is completed.
Regarding the operation of the Janakpur Cigarette Factory, a proposal has been forwarded to the Ministry of Finance after fixing the facilities that the employees are entitled to when they are retired and the liabilities like money that the factory owes to the government and the different banks.
The process of operating the Janakpur Cigarette Factory would be taken ahead once the liabilities of the factory is settled, spokesperson Khatiwada said.
She said a model has been prepared for operating the Orient Magnesite Industry under the private-public partnership.
