KATHMANDU, March 16: Government and the agitating Muslim community reached an agreement Monday evening, by signing a six-point deal.

The agreement signed by Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Janardan Sharma and leader of Joint Muslim National Struggle Committee, Taj Mohammad Miya gives separate identity to Muslims including all other indigenous nationalities, Madhesi, Tharus and Dalits, among other minorities. All existing constitutional provisions and laws will be amended to accommodate this agreement.

The agreement also says a National Muslim Commission will be immediately formed and the government is committed to including separate details of all minorities when the next census is conducted.

The government has also expressed commitment to ensuring proportional representation in all state organs for Madhesi, Dalit, indigenous nationalities, janajatis, women, laborers, peasants, handicapped and marginalized communities.

The Muslims, in return, have called off all of their protest programs.
