Govt invites agitating Tharus for talks

ITAHARI, May 16: The government on Wednesday formally invited the Tharu Struggle Committee for talks as the latter has been continuing its protests.



The Tharu committee has formed an 11-member team led by Chandra Kumar Chaudhary, president of Tharu Welfare Assembly, to hold talks with the government. [break]

Santosh Tharu, Baladev Chaudhary, Ram Saran Chaudhary, Upendra Gachchhadar, Bhanu Ram Chaudhary, Fulmati Chaudhary, Puran Tharu, Gopal Dahit, Indrajit Tharu and Saraswati Chaudhary are the other members of the talks team.



The committee, however, has decided not to withdraw its protests. According to lawmaker Santosh Tharu, they will hold talks while simultaneously carrying out the protests.



United Struggle Committee comprising Tharuhat Autonomous State Council, Madhesi Mithila Forum - Democratic, Tharu National Liberation Front, MPRF-Nepal, among others, has been organizing mass protests demanding Eastern Tharuhat Kochila autonomous province comprising districts from Jhapa to Siraha, Mid-Tarai Simraungadh Province from Parsa to Dhanusha and Tharuhat autonomous province from Chitwan to Kanchanpur.



Tharu community along with various other ethnic groups had announced a five-day protest programs starting Monday.
