KATHMANDU, July 12: Ministry of Youth and Sports has barred National Sports Council (NSC) from carrying out financial transactions accusing NSC of issuing funds without ministry´s consent. [break]

The ministry informed the NSC about the restriction through a letter on Sunday. The ministry sent letters also to the Agriculture Development Bank (ADB/N) and Nepal Investment Bank on Friday about its decision to freeze NSC´s bank accounts.

NSC has two bank accounts, 030730 and 030741 at the Tripureshwar branch of ADB/N.

“NSC started to issue funds without informing the ministry, so we decided to freeze the bank accounts,” a ministry source said. A letter sent to NSC on Sunday by the ministry also restricted NSC from giving promotions to staff and hiring staff on contract and daily wage basis. The source said that the ministry decided to form a neutral committee to investigate the accusation of fund misuse during the Fifth National Games held three months ago in the capital.

Talking to myrepublica.com, NSC Member Secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha confirmed that the ministry sent a letter not to implement any new plans and projects without convening board meeting. Minister for Youth and Sports heads Sports Council board.
