Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Poudel, who is also the government spokesman, told media persons after an emergency cabinet meeting that the government´s efforts to hold talks with the CPN-Maoist-led alliance had failed as the alliance put forth various conditions for talks.
"The government´s serious attention has been drawn toward the conditions put forth by the CPN-Maoist in response to the government´s invitation for talks. Nepal government appeals to the CPN-Maoist not to set any preconditions even before sitting for talks and stop avoiding talks and not use such preconditions as an excuse for avoiding talks altogether," said Poudel.
In response to the government´s invitation for talks, CPN-Maoist-led alliance has put forth various three conditions including scrapping of the appointment of Lok Man Singh Karki as chief of CIAA, scrapping of the 25-point ordinance endorsed by the president to resolve the constitutional difficulties and immediate halt to the citizenship certificates distribution to ´immigrants´ by birth as preconditions for talks.
Minister Poudel said that election is the only alternative to ending the deadlock facing the country now. "Nepal government believes that solution to any problems can be found through talks, negotiations, or discussions.
Therefore, Nepal government, Council of Ministers appeals to the CPN-Maoist and other parties in the alliance to come to the negotiating table for holding discussions and negotiations on issues related to the upcoming constituent assembly elections and other concurrent issues," he said.
On the occasion, Poudel mentioned that a Consultation and Coordination Committee formed by the cabinet last month to hold consultations with various political parties, civil society, and people from various walks of life to ensure their participation in election process has expedited its work. He said that government is committed to holding free, fair and credible election within the stipulated deadline of mid-December.
