Nowadays, poor Gopal Prasad is desperately seeking support for treatment, visiting different places including Nepalgunj and the capital city Kathmandu, with the help of his wife, Bishnu.
It was 2055 BS, the Maoist insurgency engulfed not only his village but the entire district. So the bands of marauding Maoist cadres and fighters were rife.
"He was attacked by the Maoist cadres from our own village. They had intended to take his life by spraying acid on his face and body. He fled, saved life but lost eyesight forever," said wife Bishnu with eyes full of tears.
She further said, "My husband was disabled at the age he needs to care children and family. He is 53 now"
Recounting the horrible incident, she said it was a dark winter evening. The family was about to go to bed after the evening meal. Some newcomers came to home, seeking shelter. But they sprayed acid and kerosene on Gopal Prasad, kindled fire to set it on him. It was the most indelible moment of her life.
He was then the VDC Chairman of the Nepali Congress. The family after the incident was expelled from the community. The land the Maoist party captured during the insurgency is yet to get back.
Gopal Prasad is a Nepali Congress' general convention representative now. But, he has not received anything except some treatment expense when Girija Prasad Koirala was the prime minister after the second people's movement.
Wailing, he said, "Now, we want our homestead back whatever catastrophe happened in the past. If I get justice, it would be little like getting my eyesight back. Can Maoist restore it? Is government ready to help? "
His wife added that the political representatives and other stakeholders in the district headquarters are mute on providing any relief and reparation.
The couples' faces exuding extreme dejection is obviously awaiting helping hands and justice. Is there any one or organization to heed them? RSS
