Golden Gate, Capital advance into quarters

KATHMANDU, May 9: Capital College and Research Center (CCRC) and Golden Gate Education Network (GGEN) advanced into the quarterfinals winning their respective matches on Saturday in the ongoing 6th KCC Running Trophy Cricket Tournament being held at TU Ground, Kirtipur. [break]



In the first match of the day, CCRC thrashed Himalayan Institute of Science and Technology (HIST) by 163 runs while Golden Gate registered a 31-run win over KCC-Blue in the second match.



Put into bat first, CCRC opener Pawan Das scored unbeaten 79 off 55 balls and his partner Subash Pradhan hit 59 runs off 35 deliveries to give CCRC a flying start. Das hit six boundaries and two sixes whereas Pradhan had eight hits to the fence and a six. Later, Anil Mandal and Antim Thapa chipped in 27 and 24 runs, respectively, as CCRC piled up a mammoth 215 runs in 20 overs losing only two wickets.



HIST were bowled out for just 52 runs. Man of the match Raj Shrestha took five wicktes conceding only 10 runs to HIST. Rahul Bansal was the only batsman to reach a double figure in HIST inning.



In another match, batting first GGEN mustured 120 runs losing six wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Sanjay Shrestha scored 27 runs for GGEN while Subash Khakurel (25), Paras Khadka (23), Rom Shrestha (unbeaten 12) were the other players to contribute for the winners. Suraj Timilsina and Hasim Ansari claimed two wickets each for KCC-Blue and Samir Thapa and Yasin Hawari dismissed one batsman each.



While chasing the target, the hosts were restricted to 89 runs in 19.1 overs. Raju Tandon (unbeaten 19), Sagar Adhikari (18) and Suraj Timilsina (15), were the only players to reach double figure score for the hosts.



Man of the match Rom Shrestha of GGEN and Bibek Dali pocketed three wickets each while Prithu Baskota took one wicket.
