KATHMANDU, April 7:Except for crippling daily life in different districts, no major untoward incident took place on Tuesday, the first day of the three-day nationwide general strike enforced by the 30-party alliance led by UCPN (Maoist).

In Saptari, protestors vandalized a motorbike (Sa 1 Ba 355) belonging to the district public health office (DPHO) at around 9:30 a.m. Family planning officer Rajesh Kumar Mishra was riding the bike to reach office, according to DPHO.

Protestors also pelted stones at the land revenue office.

Hundreds of passengers were stranded on the East-West Highway in Saptari district.

Although local markets, business houses, educational institutions and public transport were closed in Dhankuta district in the morning, the markets reopened in the afternoon through mutual agreement between local agitators and entrepreneurs.

As per reports from district-based reporters, the general strike affected normal life completely in Mahottari and Palpa districts.

A group of protestors from the 30-party alliance vandalized a passenger bus in Jaleswor, district headquarters of Mahottari.

In Palpa they vandalized three motorbikes (Lu 7 Pa 3371, Lu 14 Pa 5144 and Ba 55 Pa 8159).

However, the general strike hardly affected life in Achham, Dadeldhura and Khotang districts. The locals in these districts had come out onto the streets to defy the strike, according to our local reporters.
