KATHMANDU, July 26: Police have arrested 26 members of seven different gangs allegedly involved in cheating foreign tourists by presenting themselves gem traders. Two of those groups are said to have been operating their business in Nepal for over two decades.
Metropolitan Police on Sunday made public the arrested and involve a majority of them are Indian nationals. The groups used to first befriend with tourists, make them partners in the trade, blackmail them by intimidating with customs laws and compel them to return home with nothing at hand, the police said.
Four Indian nationals -- Ismail Khan, Abbas Ali, Shamsher Ali and Sabir Ali -- associated with one ´Sigdel Group´ were arrested last week from airport. Police also seized brown sugar from them.
