Ganeshman, Kshitiz take lead in amateur chess

KATHMANDU, March 13 : Veteran Ganeshman Duwal of Bhaktapur and emerging player Kshitiz Bhandari maintained their lead in the Third National Amateur Chess Championship with equal six points in Lalitpur on Friday.

In the seventh round match, Ganeshman defeated another veteran Labakumar Shrestha to accumulate six points from six matches and remained level with Kshitiz, who beat Surya Basnet of Ramechhap.


Bikash Kuluju of Bahaktapur ended his day at third place with 5.5 points following his win over Rabi Shrestha and Sumeet Panthi.

Likewise, Ashish Phuyal of Dolakha, Rajan Subedi of Jhapa, Labakumar Shrestha of Sarlahi, Sumeet Pun of Kathmandu, Rabindra Shakya and Sanjay Maharjan of Lalitpur, Damodar Gaiju of Bhaktapur, Suraj Pandi of Kathmandu and underrated Bikram Chokami are tied on five points.
