KATHMANDU, July 29: The Gachchhadar-faction of the Madhesi People´s Rights Forum led by Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar on Wednesday applied at the Election Commission (EC) for registration of a new party -- Madhesi People´s Rights Forum, Nepal (Democratic).

The EC said it would register the party after studying the documents submitted by Gachchhadar. Last Sunday, the EC had decided to let the Gachchhadar-faction register either a new party or a separate group of the MPRF. But the faction chose the second option, something not liked by the MPRF led by Upendra Yadav.

Nineteen leaders, who featured in the central committee of MPRF led by Yadav before the split on June 5, are the memebers of the central committee of the new party for the time being. Gachchhadar himself is the chairman.

The new party has two vice presidents -- Rameshwar Raya Yadav and Mohammad Nasir Siddique. Jitendra Narayan Dev is the general secretary while Rabindra Thakur and Asha Chaturvedi have been named secretary and treasurer, respectively. Sharat Singh Bhandari has been named senior leader of the party.

"We have officially registered the party following the EC decision on Sunday though we have reservation over the decision," an elated Gachchhadar with vermilion on his forehead and garlands in his neck told journalists after filing the application.

The new party´s spokesperson and General Secretary Dev said the party would expand its central committee most probably next week. The party has set up its office at Sanepa, Lalitpur.
